A modern home rebuilt inside a cozy gated community in a high-desert climate
Complementing the elements
The design objective was to create a modern garden with elements of both desert and Mediterranean landscapes while complementing the modern architecture of the home. Transitional gardens and climate appropriate plant selections unify and harmonize each of the outdoor spaces with the residence and the landscape beyond.
The front garden
The front garden consists of plants adapted to the high-desert environment with drifts of texture and moments of color for a beautiful seasonal effect. Combinations of green, silver, and yellow create a spectacular impression as a frontage garden should. The driveway allée of Golden Locust trees evoke a ceremonious arrival upon coming home. Simply laid out plantings of shrubs, ornamental grasses, and agaves gently guide guests from the front to back.
The rear garden
The rear pool garden connects to the interior of the home both visually and physically through 30’ pocket sliding doors, which open out to the perfect space for entertaining and play. Amenities such as outdoor kitchen, sunken patio, built-in lounge seating, fire table, pool and hot tub come together in a beautifully laid out arrangement.
Corten steel planters surround the sunken patio and Myrtles and Lavenders alive with fragrance, color, and texture create a multi-sensory experience. The pool features a 6’ long fountain weir, a Baja shelf for both play and relaxation, a cozy hot tub, and ample length for swimming laps.
