Shawn Maestretti Garden Architecture is now Studio Petrichor!

We are honored to be designing a portion of this three acre sanctuary to engage and educate the community on regenerative landscape practices, California plants, and their relationship to a changing climate.

Demonstrations on the following topics invite the community to take these practices into their own gardens:

• Hugelkultur – the practice of constructing berms using fell trees and other compostable biomass in raised planting beds for drought-resiliency.
• An approach to plant community design using “green mulch”, inspired by Thomas Rainer and Claudia West in Planting in a Post Wild World
• Examples of how plant communities and the soil food web maximize water infiltration, carbon sequestration, evaporative cooling, and enhance habitat biodiversity.
• A palette of beautiful California plants native to the Pasadena eco-region.

Arlington Gardens is a landmark botanical garden and community space in the heart of Pasadena, CA originally designed by Mayita Dinos in 2005.

Greens need growing! New photos of this project coming soon.
